In a frozen, machine-ruled Earth of 2034, humanity scrapes by in scattered military convoys while alien constructs dominate the ruins. Anomaly 2 places you in command of the Yukon convoy as Lieutenant Simon Lynx, tasked with locating the scientist behind Project Shockwave—the last superweapon capable of turning the tide against the invaders. Set years after the events of Anomaly: Warzone Earth, the planet has become a harsh post-apocalyptic wasteland of ice, overgrown ruins, and deadly automated defenses.
The game flips the classic tower defense formula into tower offense. Instead of building static defenses, you assemble and guide a convoy of armored vehicles through enemy-held territory. You plan routes on a tactical map to avoid the heaviest fire or punch through chokepoints, then drop into real-time combat where your commander can deploy support abilities such as repair fields, decoys, and EMP blasts. Units can be ordered, rearranged on the fly, and morphed mid-battle into alternate mech forms with different weapons, ranges, and roles, creating a huge number of tactical combinations.
The single-player campaign is short but dense, featuring varied environments that range from icy highways to jungle-overgrown landmarks and multiple endings based on your choices. A unique asymmetrical multiplayer mode lets one player control the human convoy while the other commands the alien towers, turning every match into a direct clash between offense and defense.
With crisp visuals for its era, tense real-time decision-making, and a strong focus on route planning and unit synergy, Anomaly 2 delivers a distinctive strategy experience that rewards careful preparation and quick adaptation.
