Airport Madness: Time Machine
Developer: Big Fat Simulations Inc.
Publisher: Big Fat Simulations Inc.
Release Date: September 18, 2015
Genres: Adventure, Simulation, Strategy, Time Management
Airport Madness: Time Machine drops you into the control tower of a humble grass airfield in 1925 and lets you guide its transformation across decades of aviation history. As an air traffic controller, you manage arrivals and departures, sequencing aircraft to keep the field flowing safely while the airport itself expands around you. What begins as a simple strip with early biplanes and mail carriers gradually becomes a multi-runway wartime base and eventually a sprawling international hub packed with passenger jets by 1970.
The game is built around roughly 60 short, self-contained levels that each last five to fifteen minutes. Once unlocked, any level can be replayed, so you can perfect your timing or simply enjoy a favorite era again. The progression walks you through recognizable milestones: early air-mail operations, the age of barnstorming and Lindbergh, the intensity of World War II military traffic, the arrival of the first passenger jets, and the birth of aircraft like the Boeing 737. Visuals emphasize period-appropriate aircraft and airport growth, giving the experience the feel of a living historical timeline rather than a static sandbox.
Beyond the main 20th-century storyline, the game offers two imaginative detours. One is a steampunk-themed 1802 scenario that imagines what flying machines might have looked like if early visionary designs had actually taken flight. The other leaps forward to 2173, where high-speed aircraft and hyper-efficient airport layouts demand rapid decision-making. These alternate eras sit alongside more than forty distinct aircraft types, each requiring slightly different handling as you speed them up, slow them down, or assign runways and taxi routes.
Controls are straightforward point-and-click with keyboard hotkeys for the most common commands, making the game accessible while still offering strategic depth as traffic density increases. The top-down view keeps the entire airfield visible so you can anticipate conflicts and clear runways at the right moment. The overall structure is more level-based and goal-oriented than earlier entries in the series, focusing on clean, satisfying sessions of traffic management rather than open-ended play.
